Lack of action on ride-hailing bill may halt Uber & Lyft in Pa.

(Harrisburg) — If the state legislature fails to pass a ride-hailing bill in the very limited voting days left this session, services like Uber and Lyft will be illegal again in Pennsylvania.
Temporary authorization for the services expires at the end of the year.
Republican state Senator Camera Bartolotta’s bill to authorize and regulate ride sharing services passed the Senate with only two no votes last November.
A similar measure in the House hasn’t made it out of that chamber.
Temporary authorization for ride-sharing has already expired in Philadelphia.
The Beaver County lawmaker says she hopes that adds a layer of urgency to her legislation.
“Because it’s very clear that the public and the consumers are demanding this service,” she says.
Bartolotta says incomes for thousands of part and full-time drivers will also be jeopardized if authorization expires.
A House GOP spokesman says they are working to finalize consensus on a ride-sharing bill and plan to address the issue when lawmakers return to Harrisburg.
