(West York) — The mayor of a midstate borough is under fire for racist messages posted to his Facebook page.

One post equates President Obama and his family to orangutans. It went up on West York Mayor Charles Wasko’s Facebook page on June 18th.

It shows a group of oraguntans in a wheelbarrow, with the caption, “Moving day at the White House.”

Other posts show a noose, with the words “Barry, this rope is for you.”

Another post on the mayor’s Facebook page.

Shawn Mauck, president of the West York Borough Council, has three kids, and says voters should pressure Wasko to resign.

“When the mayor talks in that language, he is casting a shadow on all those young children who do not see the world in that way. It’s wrong,” says Mauck.

A third post on the mayor’s Facebook page.

Mauck calls the posts deplorable and despicable – saying he’ll also ask council to censure Wasko at the next meeting.

He notes the mayor oversees the police department, but says he couldn’t determine if any racially motivated decisions were made.

Adds Mauck: “You wouldn’t want someone like this overseeing the day-to-day functions of a police department. I know I speak for them, I believe that would give great pause to anybody.”

Wasko didn’t respond to a request for comment, but told the York Daily Record it’s all “b.s” before hanging up.
