Committee approves funding for long-awaited Harrisburg courthouse

(Harrisburg) — Is this finally it?

A midstate congressman says a House resolution includes money to build a new federal courthouse in Harrisburg.

Republican Lou Barletta says a committee has approved more than $194 million for the courthouse.

The appropriation still needs approval from the full House and Senate, as well as President Obama’s signature.

A site in Harrisburg’s midtown neighborhood – at 6th and Reily streets – has been set aside for the courthouse for years, while leaders waited for federal funding.

Barletta says a new courthouse will provide a boost to the city and lasting economic benefits.
