(Gettysburg) — A peace memorial in the midistate is closing for a preservation project.

The Eternal Light at the Gettysburg National Military Park will continue to burn for much of the time, even while the work is going on.

It dates back to 1938, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated it on the 75th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg.

Preservation experts are dismantling and resetting stones on the plaza at the memorial, granite capping stones, stairs and flagstone walkways.

They’re also cleaning the masonry and the bronze urn.

The memorial will be closed for the rest of the year.
