Pa. to open 5 additional centers in midstate to treat opioid addiction
(Harrisburg) — The state says it will open 5 additional centers to treat people addicted to heroin or other opioids by the start of next year.
The news on the so-called Centers of Excellence comes after an earlier announcement this year that included 4 new centers in the midstate.
The facilities will be located in Berks, Dauphin, Lancaster, Schuylkill, and York counties.
Money from the state budget paid for the first set of centers, but the Medicaid savings and federal matching funds will pay for the cost of the second round.
Department of Human Services Secretary Ted Dallas says the centers aim to address the underlying causes of addiction.
The announcement by Governor Tom Wolf’s administration will bring the number of centers of excellence up to 45 statewide by the start of 2017.
The latest group of centers of excellence that will be set up in the midstate by Jan. 1, 2017:
· Clinical Outcomes Group, Inc., Schuylkill County
· Family First Health Corporation, York County
· Hamilton Health Center, Dauphin County
· Lancaster General Hospital, Lancaster County
· Reading Hospital and Health System, Berks County
