(Mercersburg) — A midstate boarding school has raised more than $300 million as part of a major fundraising campaign.

Mercersburg Academy says the gifts will grow its endowment by 70 percent, and increase financial aid, faculty support and programs at the school.

Other facilities have been built or renovated, and some new buildings are also under construction or planned.

The school in Franklin County says the campaign is one of the strongest fundraising efforts for an independent secondary school in the U-S.

Mercersburg has about 440 students.

Boarding school tuition tops $54,000, while commuter students are charged $38,000.

Half of all students get some type of financial aid.
