(Washington, D.C.) — A mid-state man shot by a Secret Service officer outside the White House Friday remains in critical condition at George Washington University Hospital.

The man has been identified as Jesse Oliveri of Ashland, Schuylkill County.

A Secret Service spokesman says one of the agency’s officers fired one shot at the armed Oliveri after he refused repeated demands to drop his weapon as he approached a White House checkpoint.

Federal agents later found ammunition inside a nearby car believed to be used by Oliveri.

It’s not known what Oliveri’s motives were.  The investigation continues.
