(Harrisburg) — The state Bureau of Forestry is set to start aerial spraying to combat the gypsy moth population.
In the midstate, the spraying will include Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Juniata, Lebanon, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, Snyder and Union counties.
Gypsy moths attack oak trees, and state forest health staff say they could be especially prominent in the northeastern and central parts of the state this year.
The spraying will come from four helicopters and four airplanes, and will focus on state parks, forests, game lands, and federal lands.
Spraying is expected to start either this week or in early May.
