Gettysburg Foundation proposing fee increases

(Gettysburg) — The Gettysburg Foundation proposed a fee increase that will affect the cost of tickets to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center’s Cyclorama painting, film and museum experience, according to a Monday news release.

The Gettysburg Foundation is a nonprofit group that collects ticket fees and bears responsibility for operations of the military park on behalf of the National Park Service.

The proposal will be discussed at the Park Advisory Commission meeting set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the park Museum and Visitor Center, 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg. Members of the public are invited to ask questions or provide comments at the meeting.

The most recent fee increase took place in 2012 after being proposed in 2011, park spokeswoman Katie Lawhon said.

“We went through a similar engagement process, where we announced the proposal to the public, accepted comments and considered those comments,” Lawhon said. “Ultimately our regional director makes the decision and we expect that to happen again this time.”

Mike Caldwell is the National Park Service northeast regional director.

Fee increases for the David Wills House, Eisenhower National Historic Site, and Licensed Battlefield Guides are also part of the proposal, according to the release.

None of the proposed fee increases raise ticket prices by more than 18 percent. Tickets for children will remain free.

Members of the public who cannot attend the meeting can view the proposal at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/gett and post comments electronically at the planning website or send them in writing to 1195 Baltimore Pike, Suite 100, Gettysburg, PA 17325, according to the release.
