Wildfire season in Pennsylvania

(Harrisburg) — State officials are raising concern over the increasing threat of wildfires in Pennsylvania. 

Mike Kern, Chief of Forest Fire Protection with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, says it’s that time of year when the wildfire danger is at it’s highest.

“We tend to have more fires in April because a lot of the vegetation is still dormant, so more sunlight can reach the forest floor and dry things out.  Once everything greens up and the trees leaf out we don’t really have a fire problem anymore,” Kern said.

Kern also said the main causes of wildfires in Pennsylvania are from people carelessly burning debris and those that are deliberately set.
