(Reading) — If you live in an area served by UGI Utilities, there’s a good chance some digging work will be going on somewhere nearby.

UGI Utilities is spending some big bucks on replacing gas mains and making a variety of other system improvements.

40 projects have already been finished in the fiscal year beginning October 1st,  with about as many still to be completed, all to the tune of more than 150-million dollars in total costs. UGI spokesman Joe Swope says it’s all about improving service to customers…

“We appreciate all of our customers patience and understanding, but it will result in a system that enhances the safety of our system and provides more reliable service going forward,” he said.

UGI  is pursuing a 1-point-2 billion dollar overall commitment to replace all of its older pipelines.

The company has come under fire recently for seeking a nearly 20-percent increase in rates.
