Lancaster County GOP congressional candidates face off

(Lancaster) — The Republican candidates seeking to replace retiring Congressman Joe Pitts in the 16th district faced off in a primary debate in Lititz Thursday night.
The district covers most of Lancaster County, as well as parts of Berks and Chester counties.
Manheim businessman Chet Beiler says his opponent, state Senator Lloyd Smucker (R- Lancaster) isn’t a reliable conservative.
He’s created a website attacking Smucker’s record on everything from immigration to healthcare policy.
“Much of our research on Senator Smucker’s record has come from his colleagues,” says Beiler. “They considered him a very insecure conservative vote.”
Smucker called that notion “goofy” and accused Beiler of talking in soundbites, without having a record of accomplishing anything in public office.
“It’s easy to talk a good game. It’s easy to throw bombs. There are a lot of legislators who will do exactly that,” says Smucker. “They don’t get anything done.”
Pennsylvania’s primary is April 26th.
