As part of a weeklong residency at Lebanon Valley College, the Cypress String Quartet will perform a free concert dedicated to the late Ellen Hughes on Thursday, March 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Lutz Hall.

After 20 years of performing together, The Cypress String Quartet will be disbanding in the summer of 2016. Their 20th anniversary season follows the completion of a project to record the complete Beethoven string quartets on AVIE records. The recordings will be released in May.

As director of the Next Generation Concert Series she was instrumental in bringing the Cypress String Quartet to Lebanon Valley College 20 years ago. She also brought them to Harrisburg during her tenure as Executive and Artistic Director for Market Square Concerts. Ellen served on the board of directors for the Cypress String Quartet from its earliest years.

The free memorial concert will include performances of Beethoven’s String Quartets, Op. 18, No. 1 and Op. 59, No. 3 as well as selections from Novelettes by Alexander Glazunov.
