(Harrisburg) — The costs of running Pennsylvania’s liquor store system was the prime focus during a Senate budget hearing this past week in Harrisburg.

Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board Executive Director John Metzger touted a number of cost saving measures the agency is undertaking, including controlling labor expenses and revamping the licensing system.

One lawmaker who was unimpressed is Senator Scott Wagner.  He says they’re not generating enough revenue compared to the cost of running the system.

Wagner says the system should be returning at least 300 million dollars to the state, three times the projected figure for the next fiscal year.

PLCB officials say one way of increasing the bottom line would be to allow Sunday sales.
