(Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa) — You may hear some booming sounds if you’re near Fort Indiantown Gap during the next two weeks and beyond.
The Gap, in Lebanon County, will host live-fire mortar exercises on Wednesday and Thursday of next week and live-fire exercises using howitzers next Thursday through Sunday.
Tech Sergeant Ted Nichols, with the Pennsylvania National Guard, says how far the sound travels depends a lot on local atmospheric conditions.
“The sound and how people can hear it really is something that is dependent on the weather. If there is a low cloud ceiling, that can really amplify how far some of this can be heard. Sometimes, depending on weather conditions, people next door might not even hear a thing,” Nichols said.
Live-fire exercises using Bradleys are also scheduled for March 24 and 25th.
All exercises will take place between 8am and 11pm.
