Gov. Tom Wolf announces that he will veto parts of an overdue budget passed by the Republican-controlled House and Senate. The line-item veto will let $23.3 billion flow to education, human services, and other state government functions.

(Harrisburg) — Governor Tom Wolf is slated to outline a state budget for the next fiscal year, while a spending plan for the current year remains unresolved.

Even though a compromise framework budget failed to win approval, Wolf continues to hold out hope for it, saying be believes legislative support for the plan still exists.

“I think we have a working majority in the Senate and the House and I think we showed that we had the votes,” he says. “So, I think you might want to ask the House Republican leadership why we haven’t brought that final vote to a conclusion, so that appropriation bill is on my desk.”

Wolf says he doesn’t believe there will be a need for a supplemental appropriation for essential services as some lawmakers are reportedly planning.

The governor says it’s up to his administration to make sure services like state police and corrections are fully funded.
