Snow storm expected to start late Friday, last through Saturday

(Harrisburg) — The cold has hit the midstate.

The snow is next.

When?

The first snow storm of the year is expected to arrive late Friday or early Saturday.

How much?

The National Weather Service in State College is only calling it a significant event.

Meteorologist Shane Kearnf explains.

“Ironing out the details, especially with the gradient between a couple inches and several inches, with that still being unknown, we’re still a little hesitant to put out numbers,” says Kearnf.

Kearnf says the Weather Service will have details on how much snow it expects later tonight.

Their short-term models will start to pick up the storm tomorrow, giving them more even information.

Could it miss the midstate?

“The storm is not going to be changing that much. It’s just going to be where the precip shild sets up and where you are relative to that. It could seem like a bust, but the storm’s still there,” says National Weather Service meteorologist Shane Kearnf.

He says the storm is coming, so it’s just a question of how much snow the region will get.

Travel

Some airlines are already allowing travelers to change tickets without fees in anticipation of the storm.
