Database blocks more sales of meth ingredients in 2015
(Harrisburg) — As the heroin crisis reaches its third year in Pennsylvania, the state Health Department is also reporting its blocked more sales of a drug used to make methamphetamine.
A national database is used to track sales of over-the-counter cold and allergy medications that contain key ingredients to make meth.
People who try to buy more than the daily limit are blocked at pharmacies.
Sales of nearly 101,000 boxes of the medication were stopped in Pennsylvania last year.
That’s an increase of about 1,000 boxes compared to 2014.
Meanwhile, a more intensive drug monitoring program meant to track prescription painkillers is still under development by the agency.
