Medicaid expansion approaches one-year anniversary in Pa.
(Harrisburg) — The state budget dispute gets most of the attention at the Capitol.
But expanding Medicaid was one of Governor Tom Wolf’s most significant moves in his first year.
The Affordable Care Act allowed Wolf to make the decision.
More than a half million people have since signed up — with some saying it’s the first time they’ve had health insurance in years.
WITF’s Ben Allen sits down with the man in charge of the department that oversees Medicaid, Human Services Secretary Ted Dallas, to see how things are going.
Department of Human Services Secretary Ted Dallas referenced CHIP in that last answer – that’s the Children’s Health Insurance Program, which covers about $150,000 kids in low-income families.
The human services agency will soon be in charge of oversight, after legislators and Governor Tom Wolf approved moving CHIP from the Department of Insurance.
