(Harrisburg) — A new year brings with it new requirements under the Affordable Care Act. Both employers and employees will be affected.

Starting this month, businesses with 50 or more full-time workers will have to show they’re in compliance with the employer mandate portion of the ACA. Rob Glus, who chairs the Health and Welfare Committee for Harrisburg-based Conrad Siegel Actuaries, says there are several steps involved.

“I don’t think people appreciated the complexity of the rules and the laws, and not even so much the law as the reporting about it.  The coding that has to go into the forms.  It’s almost like a brand new W-2 form that everybody’s going to get this year except it’s got a lot of intricate details about health care coverage in it now,” he said.

Glus says employees will also have to complete a form stating they had health insurance last year. The forms must be returned by January 31st.
