Pa. child health program moves to Department of Human Services
(Harrisburg) — A critical state program that provides health care to children in low-income households is moving from one state department to another.
The Department of Human Services will now take charge of the Children’s Health Insurance Program, known as CHIP, which serves about 150-thousand kids.
Before the latest change, the state Insurance Department oversaw CHIP – the only state in the country with such an arrangment.
Human Services Secretary Ted Dallas says with the move, care will be better coordinated, and get the help they need.
The agency also manages the state’s Medicaid program.
