Wilson College and Volvo will compost food waste

(Chambersburg) — A midstate college and Volvo Construction Equipment are working together on a project meant to cut down on food waste.

Volvo, based in Shippensburg, will send food scraps to Wilson College, which will then compost and reuse it on the college’s organic farm.

Wilson says it’s the first program of its kind in the state.

The Franklin County college says it already has experience with the process – since it’s been collecting food scraps from its dining hall for more than a decade.

Volvo is trying to stop shipping different types of waste from its Shippensburg facility to landfills.
