August’s pick-of-the-month “Monkey: Not Ready for Kindergarten”

In Monkey: Not Ready for Kindergarten, author and illustrator Marc Brown creates a sweet, funny, and touching look at a little Monkey who is NOT ready to go to kindergarten.

What if he gets on the wrong bus? What if they don’t have any red crayons? What if he doesn’t like the snacks? What if he doesn’t make new friends? There are so many thoughts running through Monkey’s head! But step by step, his family eases his worries: they get him a new backpack, help him read books about school, prepare his lunch, and make sure that he is finally ready for Kindergarten.

Marc Brown published his first of many Arthur books in 1976, and his aardvark has gone on to star in many books, as well as a six-time Emmy Award-winning PBS television show. He grew up in Erie, PA.
