Audit: no meeting minutes from Steelton for nearly 2 years

(Steelton) — A Dauphin County borough didn’t keep minutes of borough council meetings for nearly two years, according to the state Auditor General.

Eugene DePasquale says Steelton failed to follow the Sunshine Act, which requires every portion of every meeting be available to the public.

He compared the violation to Scranton’s problems, where the public pension system is facing a bevy of problems, including underfunding, and retirees taking multiple pensions.

He says leaders in Steelton should know that transparency could have helped prevent those issues.

Steelton’s police pension plan is 97 percent funded, but its non-uniformed plan has dropped ten percentage points in five years to 78 percent.
