Smart Talk: Why do Pennsylvanians support medical marijuana and death penalty moratorium?
What to look for on Smart Talk Monday, June 22, 2015:
Pennsylvania registered voters surveyed as part of the latest Franklin and Marshall College Poll overwhelmingly support making marijuana legal for medical purposes. The poll indicates that 87% support legalizing medical marijuana.
The state General Assembly continues to wrestle with legislation that would allow marijuana to be used to treat conditions such as seizure disorders. The proposal has bipartisan support in the Senate but hasn’t been as widely accepted in the House.
The same poll shows voters have made a distinction between making pot legal for medical reasons and allowing it to be lawful recreationally. Forty-percent favor legal recreational marijuana with 54% opposing.

The poll found a majority of Pennsylvania voters support Gov. Tom Wolf’s moratorium on the death pnealty.
Other issues to be addressed are the state budget and discrimination in housing and employment based on a person’s sexual orientation or gender.
