(Harrisburg) — The state Health Department is warning people in two midstate counties about a scam.

The agency says it isn’t behind letters sent to some homeowners in Dauphin and York counties.

It notes the signature of the current secretary of Health on the letter is fraudulent, and an outdated logo is also used.

The letter warns homeowners their homes break local housing codes and they face fines if they don’t fix the issues.

The Health Department says its notified law enforcement in the two counties.

It asks those who receive one of these letters to call 877-PA-HEALTH to report it.

DOH has no authority to enforce housing codes.
