Turnpike widening project in midstate kicks off this morning
(New Cumberland, Cumberland County) — The Turnpike Commssion is set to kick off a construction project in the midstate this morning.
The $94 million effort to widen the toll road will run between the Turnpike’s Susquehanna River Bridge and the Harrisburg West Interchange, Exit 242.
The roadway will eventually go from four to six lanes for about three miles.
Turnpike Commission Chief Engineer Brad Heigel says the widening project is expected to be completed by spring 2018. During construction, the Turnpike Commission says two lanes in both directions will be maintained most of the time.
