Harrisburg police officer commended for showing restraint

(Harrisburg) — A Harrisburg police officer is getting recognized for showing restraint even as his vehicle took multiple gun shots during a car chase earlier this week.
Mayor Eric Papenfuse is giving Officer Angel Diaz the Mayor’s Award for Valor.
“Officer Diaz was shot at repeatedly while at the same time, calmly continuing to pursue not returning fire, relaying the directions of the vehicle. One of the bullets actually passed through his door and landed right next to him.”
Diaz, a Harrisburg resident, joined the department in January 20-14.
Early Wednesday morning, he responded to a report of a robbery attempt, and pursued the three suspects through the city’s Uptown neighborhood.
Two were captured after the chase, with the third surrendering to Harrisburg police last night.
Mayor Papenfuse and Police Chief Thomas Carter both say the incidents illustrate the department’s compassionate approach to law enforcement, at a time when police misconduct has made headlines nationally.
