(Harrisburg) — A midstate horse trainer is headed to prison for six months for rigging races by giving drugs to horses at Penn National Race Course in Dauphin County.

50-year-old David Wells of Grantville had admitted to giving the drugs to horses he trained and raced between 2009 and 2013 to give them an advantage.

Wells also says he worked to hide his actions, and knew it was illegal.

The investigation into Wells’s activity also found the official clocker at Penn National was engaged in wire fraud.

Daniel Robertson pleaded guilty to those charges last year.
