(Harrisburg) — Museums across the midstate are getting a financial boost.

The state Historical and Museum Commission is passing out grants totaling $1.9 million, with museums in Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin,Schuylkill, Union and York counties among those on the list.

The Whitaker Center in Harriburg nearly got the maximum award, as Howard Pullman with the Commission explains.

“The maximum was $65,000, and that was for the larger museums with higher budgets, but again, even amounts of $2,500, $4,000, it’s all meant to help in some way.”

Other winners include the York County Historical Trust, the Children’s Museum of Lancaster, the National Civil War Museum, and the Adams County Historical Society.

To qualify for the money, museums were required to have at least one-full time employee and a budget of at least a hundred thousand dollars.
