Pinnacle set to open hospital on West Shore
(Hampden Township) — The first new hospital in the region in decades is set to open in Cumberland County.
Every room in Pinnacle’s West Shore Hospital in Hampden Township is private, with walls that are meant to soften loud noises, and windows to allow in natural light.

But, the layout is also designed to get emergency room patients help as soon as they need it.
Rooms for CAT scans, MRIs, X-rays are all within steps of each other, and just beyond them are three cardiac catheterization labs, used to intervene when heart issues come up.
“This is indeed a very good day for Cumberland County. But is also a very good day for the greater Harrisburg area. It is a good day for all of central Pennsylvania. And ultimately, it is a great day for the Commonwealth as a whole,” saysLieutenant Governor Jim Cawley.
Cumberland County’s population grew faster than any other county in Pennsylvania between April 2010 and July 2013, according to the US Census.
“This impressive rate of growth will place greater demand on our health care delivery system. The West Shore hospital will help the region to prepare for this new demand and leave room for expansion in the future,” saysRepublican state Representative Glen Grell.
Among the many unique features is a digital whiteboard, which will allow patients to see records related to their stay right in their room.
The hospital costs $120 million, and can accommodate up to about 40,000 patients a year in the emergency room.
The hospital contains 108 private rooms and seven operating rooms.
It’s scheduled to open its doors Monday.
