Flash flood watch tonight, and a different kind of storm

(State College) — A flash flood watch goes into effect at eight tonight for the entire region, but this storm will be a little different than others.

The rain and thunderstorms are expected to really pick up this evening and carry into tomorrow morning, with up to 2.5 inches expected.

Totals could be even higher in some communities, which could mean flooding in smaller creeks and streams.

“It’s pulling actually some rich, sub-tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. It’s pulling it all the way up from the Gulf of Mexico into our area,”says National Weather Service meteorologist Elyse Colbert.

That’s the catalyst behind the warning.

“Which is resulting in the system producing the heavier rainfall instead of the run of the mill cold front passing through the area.”

Colbert says the Susquehanna River is not in danger of flooding.

The flash flood watch lasts until tomorrow evening.
