The children’s program Sesame Street was a pioneer when it debuted in 1969. It was one of the first TV programs directed at three-to five year old children that mixed entertainment and education to teach the alphabet and numbers.

Millions of children from around the world have watched the show and learned the basics from the program.

A lot has changed in the past 45 years. Today’s kids are not just watching TV but are already using computers or other devices.

Technology is making a big difference in how children learn.

On Tuesday’s Smart Talk, we’ll learn just much how has changed from Dr. Michael Levine, Founding Director of the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop. Dr. Levine addresses early childhood learning in the digital age.

Also, you may know her as Janice from the hit TV show Friends, but Maggie Wheeler is also an accomplished musician with an wide-ranging repertoire. Wheeler appears on Smart Talk to discuss the “Together in Song” concert, scheduled for Thursday in Harrisburg.

Joining Wheeler with a mixture of West African, aborigine, Australian, and Native American music is percussionist Emile Hassan Dyer.

The concert will benefit the REMember Foundation. The Foundation’s Donna Orbach also joins us. For more information or to register for the event, visit http://rememberfund.org/rememberfest-2013/
