PA state workers showed their generosity in 2013

(Harrisburg) — Pennsylvania state employees pledged nearly three million dollars to charities last year.

The annual State Employee Combined Appeal — known as SECA — totaled $2.9 million in pledges to a thousand charitable organizations.

Office of Administration spokesman Dan Egan says that’s about $140,000 more than the previous year’s total.

“The can give as little as a couple dollars, to a couple hundred dollars. It’s really their choice,” he says. “That’s one of the great things about the SECA program is that it really lets the employees control how much money they give, and to which charities they want that money to go to.”

Egan says all charities that benefit from SECA are vetted on an annual basis.

Some 16,000 state workers from 54 different agencies made pledges in 2013.
