Jugs, Pickles, Bologna and Sleds: New Year’s in Central PA

Hayden’s Jug drops each New Year’s Eve in East Petersburg, PA.

The ball at Times Square was first dropped on New Year’s Eve in 1907, welcoming the year 1908. While this is the most well-known drop for the end of the year holiday, Central PA has its fair share of interesting items dropped, most of which have some sort of significance to their respective areas. And while some towns either dropped an object as a one-time celebration, other towns have ceased dropping things for various reasons.
