Volunteers will lay wreaths on the graves of veterans today

(Harrisburg) — Volunteers are slated to lay wreaths at seven midstate cemeteries as part of a nationwide event to remember veterans.
“Wreaths Across America” started in 1992 at Arlington National Cemetery and has since become an annual tradition on the second Saturday in December.
“There are about 900 locations nationwide and overseas. They’re all run by local community volunteers. And everyone gets together on this one day per year to lay wreaths and to honor our fallen heroes. The mission of the organization is to remember, honor and teach,” saysAmber Caron, spokeswoman for Wreaths Across America.
Word started to spread after a 2005 photograph showed the wreaths on the snowy graves of veterans.
Caron expects the group to lay about a half million wreaths on graves around the US today.

Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Lebanon County
Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York
Wolf’s Cemetary, York
Manchester Union Cemetery, Manchester, York County
Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Hanover, York County
