(Harrisburg) — Runners from 39 states will be participating in tomorrow’s Harrisburg Marathon. But, it’s a local race for Park Barner. The 69-year-old, who lives in the city, has run in all 40 Harrisburg Marathons dating back to 1973.

Despite a few injuries, he’s committed to completing number 41.

“It’s a streak and I want to keep it going… it’s like winning when you cross the finish line, it doesn’t matter where you are or what,” he says.

Barner, a member of the American Ultrarunning Hall of Fame, says he expects to finish the 26.2-mile course in about six hours this year, with a mix of walking, jogging and running.

He’ll be joined by about 1,400 fellow runners at the starting line. Tomorrow’s race begins at 8 a.m. on City Island.

As part of Smart Talk Friday, witf‘s Matt Paul has ventured out to catch up with three midsaters training for the 41st annual race.
