The numbers are astounding — more than 20 million Americans have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and it’s estimated that one in three could be treated for it by the year 2050.
The explosion of Type 2 diabetes can be attributed to another epidemic — obesity. Type 2 diabetes is brought on by poor diet and a lack of physical activity — the same combination that leads to obesity.
Those are a few of the findings of a special York Daily Record/Sunday News series called Type 2 Diabetes: Taking Control.
witf‘s Transforming Health initiative is collaborating with the York Daily Record/Sunday News to provide information on one of the nation’s unhealthiest trends. Stories can be found on both websites.
Monday’s Radio Smart Talk will focus on Type 2 diabetes and will provide graphic stories from two people who have the disease.
