Over the Rhine: Inspiration at Home

Over the Rhine

Ohio-based Over the Rhine has been performing since 1989 to a devoted following and has shared the stage with the likes of Bob Dylan and Cowboy Junkies. Linford Detweiler (piano, guitar, bass, vocals) and Karin Bergquist (vocals, guitar) make up the duo, and they’re latest album, Meet Me at the Edge of the World will be released September 3rd. It’s a collection of songs that focus on the farm that they bought about 8 years ago. The songs are influenced by an observation of the things around them and are a chance to learn the names of the plant and wildlife around them. “We were surrounded by beautiful trees and so many different kinds of birds and weeds and wildflowers,” says Detweiler, “and we just didn’t know what to call anything, and over the last 8 years we’ve slowly begun to learn to call things by name. Calling things by name i guess feels like an act of respect.”

Over the Rhine will be performing at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia on October 15th and will be the featured performer on this Saturday’s Center Stage at 8pm on WITF 89.5 FM.
