AAA: More people expected to travel for Labor Day
(Philadelphia) — More people across Pennsylvania are expected to hit the road this Labor Day Weekend.
AAA’s annual survey finds a 4.2 percent increase in expected holiday travel for the Mid-Atlantic region, which includes the commonwealth.
Spokeswoman Jenny Robinson says a recovering economy and housing market will likely lead to more people spending while they’re away.
“The most popular activity is dining out,” Robinson explains. “Fifty-seven percent of people in our survey say they will be dining out on Labor Day weekend, and 46 percent say they will visit friends and family, 43 percent say they’ll be shopping.”
Eighty-five percent of travelers are expected to go by car and take advantage of gas prices that are 15 cents lower on average than this time last year.
Eight percent are likely to fly, while a combined 7 percent will take the bus, train or boat.
AAA predicts more than 34 million Americans will take Labor Day trips, the most since the recession hit in 2008.
