A junker road race, to Nola & back

For the past eight years, a merry band of auto adventurers set out from New York, or nearby, on a five-day race to New Orleans. It was called the Babe Rally – the last one was held this spring.
“Big Apple to Big Easy,” was the marketing slogan. It’s not a typical joyride of pit stops and souvenir shops – the major difference being a requirement that vehicles can’t cost more than $500.
Mary Wilson spoke to Lebanon County pair Eli Mailey and Shauna Yorty about the trip – and the car – that nearly marooned them in the Smokey Mountains.
