Honoring Korean War veterans
(Harrisburg) — Today marks the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement, and research historian Michael Lynch at the US Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle says the facility will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. to commemorate the truce.
“The Korean War — unfortunately — has often been referred to as the forgotten war, and in some ways it has been,” Lynch says. “I think with the events of the last decade we’ve come to appreciate our veterans much more, and our Korean War veterans are even more important.”
The ceremony will include the unveiling of a new Korean War exhibit on the center’s Army Heritage Trail. Lynch says the main feature is an M46 tank, which has been painted to look exactly like those of the 6th Medium Tank Battalion, which played a critical role during the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army Spring Offensive in 1951.
