RST: Coroner Graham Hetrick; Gettysburg 150 wrap-up

The job of a County Coroner is not for the faint of heart. From murders and suicides, to overdoses and accidents, five-term Dauphin County Coroner Graham Hetrick has seen his share of gruesome scenes.

Hetrick is responsible for the explanation of all “unattended deaths”, which amount to almost a quarter of all deaths, in a county of over 250 thousand people.

Hetrick is known for his detailed press conferences full of charts and props. He is often seen with a medical school style skeleton serving as his stoic assistant leering in the background. His demonstrations are part biology lesson, part public form, and part one-act play. One often takes away more than just information about the deceased but also his insight into life itself.

On Thursday’s Radio Smart Talk, Hetrick will discuss the role he plays as coroner and what it means to the living.

We’ll also be joined by Sovanna Mam, the co-executive producer of the new reality show “Graham of Evidence” which is due to premier on the cable network “A&E” early next year. The show follows Hetrick and his team on cases throughout the county picking up on Hetrick’s unique character and career.

Finally on Thursday’s show, Norris Flowers, of the Gettysburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Bob Kirby, Superintendent of the Gettysburg National Military Park & Eisenhower National Historic Site, will deliver a wrap up of last week’s 150^th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
