Lawmakers to form ‘Rural Pennsylvania Caucus’
(Harrisburg) — State lawmakers from some of the commonwealths rural communities are banding together in a new group.
Four state House members have formed the “Rural Pennsylvania Caucus.”
Representative Rick Mirabito (D-83) says the group will address issues common in the 75 percent of the state that’s considered rural.
“For example, when you look at issues like levels of household income and rates of education, as well as rates of poverty, in the 67 counties, you can oftentimes see that they are higher in the rural counties,” Mirabito says.
The Lycoming County Democrat will be joined by his fellow party members Mark Longietti (D-7) and Frank Burns (D-72).
Republican Tommy Sankey (R-74) is also a member of the caucus.
The group is reaching out to other lawmakers representing the 48 out of 67 Pennsylvania counties that are considered rural.
