Snow storm bearing down on the midstate

(State College) — Much of the midstate is in the path of what’s expected to be the biggest snow storm of the winter.

The National Weather Service in State College says it’s not uncommon for Pennsylvania to experience a severe March storm.

Forecaster Mike Dangelo says the heaviest snowfall will likely be to the south of the Turnpike.

“The snow will probably start around midnight, or a little after midnight, over in Franklin County and work up to the north and east pretty quickly,” Dangelo says. “I’d say by 2 a.m., 3 a.m. it’d probably be snowing in Harrisburg itself.”

Dangelo says the storm has been challenging to track, noting snow could change to rain as the storm moves out of the midstate tomorrow evening.

He says any snowfall will likely melt quickly as higher temperatures are expected later in the week.
