MoneyWorks: Social Security and other benefits go electronic

(Washington) — The federal Treasury Department is urging millions of Social Security and other federal benefit recipients to change the way they receive payments.

The department says it still mails about $5 million each month, but electronic direct deposit and special debit cards will be used for all payments starting on March 1st.
