PBS_KIDS_GO_Writers_Contest_LogoWITF is launching the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, a national competition designed to promote the advancement of children’s reading skills through hands-on, active learning.  The effort encourages children in grades K-3 in Central Pennsylvania and communities across the country, to celebrate the power of creating stories and illustrations by submitting their own original stories and illustrations.

With the new year upon us, I thought this would be a great time to stock the library in your classroom or home with some imaginative, colorful and inspiring stories. These selections are great for children ages 3-9 with the exception of Apollo which is a great choice for middle school kids.

Because every child’s needs are different, group napping can pose some challenges. It is important to consider each child's needs when evaluating naptime policies and procedures. We must balance the individual child with the overall classroom management and the safety of the group.

'Sexting' Is On The Rise PDF Print

textingOn Friday, November 6th at 8:30 pm WITF’s Smart Talk will delve into the topic of “sexting”, teenagers sending nude photographs or videos of themselves or other students on their cell phones. Although this phenomenon has been occurring for some time now, recent proposed legislation and continued incidences in local schools has renewed the public’s interest.


Senator Stewart Greenleaf, R-Montgomery County, is proposing legislation that would identify a specific criminal offense for “sexting” by anyone under the age of 18. Currently, teens accused of sexting have faced a range of charges from disorderly conduct to child pornography. In fact, seven Susquenita High School students involved in sending pornographic images and videos of themselves or other students in October, now face felony charges related to child pornography.
